Refugee Bags

Working as a coffee roaster gives me ample supply of interesting materials to work with such as the jute coffee sacks which deliver the green coffee into our warehouse. See Refugee Bags for more info and the story behind their inception.

Kids from around the globe...

Drawn from a photo taken by a friend of a boy from an orphanage in liberia. The joy in his eyes is infectious...

Oil painting of a little bolivian girl

Oil Paintings on Canvas

I finished this painting following one of life's transition periods. It is in essence a portrait of the heart.

This painting originated with an image in my mind of a tree inside a circle with roots. The rest of it came mid-creation.

Seasons - A collection of six images in one, representing a handful of various "reminders", which seemed to come to me all at once following a trip to Ireland & Sarajevo this past fall

A Thin Silence - inspired by I Kings 19:9-13, verse 13 in particular, which speaks so much of the provoking intimacy of God

Portraits

A few custom orders from my portrait business, A True Rendering

A portrait ordered as a Christmas gift of a family's two young sons, adopted from Ethiopia

Though not as clear of a photograph as I'd like, this is a pencil drawing of a mother & child...

Again, not the best photograph, this fun piece of a couple I know was done in oils as an anniversary gift from one to the other...

Various Friend Portraits

A series of portraits done of friends during my time as a ministry intern

Lori, oils

Eric & Elizabeth, colored pencil

Tony, Amy, & Sam...doing nine likenesses on one small piece of paper was a bit more time-consuming than I anticipated...

Cutting a friend Kaleb's hair...

A friend Heather on a trip to Kenya, colored pencil...

This portrait in oils of my friend Kristi got me started in the launching of my little portrait business...

Still Life's & Sporadic Pieces

I don't do many still-life's but here are a few...

Oil on cardboard, a favorite done from my second story apartment balcony overlooking the parking lot of my favorite coffeeshop one summer. For as simple as the setting was, I still felt like I was painting off of a balcony in Rome...

Charcoal still-life done freshman year of college back when I was an art major for a semester up in the third floor of Becker hall...

A colored pencil depiction of a communion done for a friend to commemorate a favorite memory on his trip to Swaziland...

Some of my favorite works are done on-the-spot, just because. This was one was done off of the cover of the DVD "In Love and War" which I happened to have with me while in a hospital waiting room...

Another spur-of-the-moment drawing done at Cornerstone Music Festival one year behind our coffee tent, of Aaron Gillespie from Underoath, in crayola colored pencils

Murals

Mosaic coffee cup at Alliance World Coffees

"Jesus is your oasis"...done at Oasis comm. church

College Friends

A collection of pieces done for or of college friends...

A favorite of my college roomy and best friend Dana, done in oils...

An in-progress and final piece oil portrait done of a good friend Tracy off of a childhood photograph...

A pencil portrait of a friend Josh with a young friend on a trip to Brazil...

A portrait of my friend Mandie and a young friend of hers done in pencil...
